Review: Blackberry Winter by Sarah Jio

Date Read - Nov, 2012

In a cold winter's night, Vera Ray bids a reluctant goodbye to her three year old son, Daniel. Struggling to make ends meet, Vera can only work and hope for a better tomorrow. However when she returns, Daniel has gone missing amid a brutal snow storm. Present day Seattle, journalist Claire Aldridge is covering the case of missing Daniel Ray amid the "blackberry winter" (which is a term meteorologists use to describe a cold snap) of 1933. As she finally discovers the truth of Daniel and Vera's fate, they share a devastating connection that transcends time. From the very beginning, "Blackberry Winter" grabs you and doesn't let go. This is a powerful testament and tribute to a mother's love and the hope of redemption. Reminiscent of "Sarah's Key", "Blackberry Winter" is a book to treasure and savor. Nothing short of beautiful.
